Thompsen School For Sale- JANE THOMPSEN, THE FOUNDER OF THE THOMPSEN SCHOOL, APPROACHED THE DUCHESNE SCHOOL BOARD AND ASKED THEM TO GIVE HER BACK HER BUILDING….THOMPSEN HAS BEEN WORKING WITH THE FEMALE INMATES AT THE DUCHESNE COUNTY JAIL AND SHE WANTS TO USE THE BUILDING TO HELP THE FEMALE INMATES WHEN THEY GET OUT OF JAIL TO, AS THOMPSEN SAID, ABILITATE THEM….SHE TOLD BOARD MEMBERS THAT WHEN A WOMAN GETS OUT OF JAIL, SHE GOES BACK TO THE SAME SITUATIONS THAT PUT HER IN JAIL IN THE FIRST PLACE…THOMPSEN WANTS A PLACE FOR THE WOMEN TO GO TO HELP THEM WITH THEIR CONFIDENCE AND TO STRENGTHEN THEM SO THEY CAN BECOME BETTER WIVES AND MOTHERS…SHE SAID , WE HAVE A VERY DEEP NEED FOR THIS…VIDA BETTS WITH ADULT PROBATION AND PAROLE ACCOMPANIED THOMPSEN AND TOLD BOARD MEMBERS, THIS BUILDING WOULD BE TRANSITIONAL HOUSING FOR THE WOMEN…A 90 DAY PROGRAM WHERE THEY CAN GET MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT, FIND EDUCATION, EMPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLY UNIFICATION WITH THEIR CHILDREN…SHE SAID THIS WOULD BE A PLACE TO HELP WOMEN BECOME SUCCESSFUL…SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER KIM HARDING SAID, THAT HE DIDN’T FEEL THAT THE BOARD COULD JUST GIVE THE BUILDING AWAY…OTHER BOARD MEMBERS AGREED THAT SINCE THE BUILDING WAS TAX PAYER PROPERTY, THAT THE DISTRICT NEEDED TO DO WHAT IS BEST FOR THE TAX PAYERS…HARDING SAID, THE BUILDING IS APPRAISED AT $600,000 BUT HE WOULD BE IN FAVOR OR LOWERING THE PRICE TO $450,000…SOME PEOPLE IN CROWD WERE NOT HAPPY WITH THAT DECISION, THEY THOUGHT THAT THE BOARD SHOULD JUST DONATE THE BUILDING FOR THIS PURPOSE…HOWEVER BOARD MEMBERS STAYED FIRM AND NOW THOMPSEN AND BETTS WILL LOOK INTO FINDING SOME FUNDING TO BUY THE BUILDING.

DCSD Start Date Moved- THE START DATE FOR THE DUCHESNE SCHOOL DISTRICT HAS BEEN MOVED BACK BY 4 DAYS…DURING THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING ON THURSDAY, SUPERINTENDENT DAVE BROTHERSON TOLD BOARD MEMBERS THAT THE STATE LEGISLATURE HAS GIVEN THE DISTRICTS 4 DAYS THAT THEY CAN USE FOR PROFESSIONAL DAYS…THESE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAYS WOULD BE TAKEN OUT OF THE THE 180 DAYS THE STUDENTS SHOULD BE IN SCHOOL…BROTHERSON SAID THAT THE DISTRICT DIDN’T NEED 4, BUT THEY COULD USE 2… SO THE SCHOOL BOARD DECIDED TO BEGIN SCHOOL ON MONDAY AUGUST 25TH RATHER THAN THURSDAY AUGUST 21ST, WHICH MOVE SCHOOL BACK 4 DAYS, COUNTING THE WEEKEND.
